Teach chess in elementary
schools!
Academic Chess has been teaching
chess in the elementary schools for over
15 years and is looking for good
people (not necessarily good at chess) who
can help.
K-6th grade 1hr lesson consists of 20-30
minutes of teaching in front of the group
on a 2 dimensional chess board, and then
30-40 minutes of supervised playing. Watch
as your kids go from complete beginners
to real chess players.
Kids are given prizes including
trophies and chess workbooks.
Even though our program is focused on
beginning kids, we also
have advanced instructors
and advanced kids including
some of the very strongest kids
in the nation.
We provide training to teach instructors
basic lessons to teach their kids. Learn
chess yourself so that you can teach kids
strategies and tricks of the game. Learn
about controlling the center, developing
your pieces, and basic opening systems such
as the sicilian and ruy lopez. We have many
chess masters on staff who work with our
beginning instructors. You will be given
many tools to improve your game.
Some of the kids we teach are complete
beginners and any level of chess player
can teach them. We believe that chess builds
critical thinking skills and helps most
kids with their academics and with life.
Help us give kids an alternative to video
games! We believe that learning chess should
be fun, and should teach love for the game.
So if you love chess, and you are good
with kids, you are a great candidate for
the job.
- Being good at chess is not
a must, you must love chess
and be willing to work on your
chess.
- Must love children and be
good working with groups of
children.
- Must have clean criminal
background (no felonies or any
crime against children).
- Must have good English skills.
- Must be clean and well-groomed.
- Must be available on weekday
afternoons from 2-4.
- Must have reliable transportation
to get from school to school.
- Must be punctual and on
time to any scheduled class.

Most of our work is done at after school
time. Although we pay well by the hour,
instructors usually only work 1-2 hours
a day. For our very best instructors we
offer many additional hours
during the school day and also for
advanced chess players private and
group coaching.
This job is ideal for people looking
for teaching experience. Teach kids a game
that they love! Many of our instructors
go on to become credentialed teachers
in the schools. All work is done
at various school sites.
